Chair for Sustainability Management

The Chair for Sustainability Management (formerly Environmental Management) has been led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Dyllick since 1996. The activities of the Chair are geared towards innovation and a high level of practical relevance, guided by the conviction that overcoming the great challenges of sustainability in today's world is not only a business responsibility but a business opportunity - for the development of innovative solutions to problems in growing markets - as well.

Thomas Dyllick served Dean of the Department of Management at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) from 2001 to 2003 and as Vice President for Teaching and Quality Management from 2003 to 2011 for the university as a whole. In 2011 he began work as the “President’s Delegate for Accountability and Sustainability” for the university-wide development and coordination of activities relevant to this topic. While attending the Academy of Management Conference in Montreal in August 2010 he was actively involved in the founding of the World Business School Council for Sustainable Business (WBSCSB), a deans' initiative from Canada (Concordia University, Montreal) and Switzerland (Business School Lausanne and the HSG).
