The World Business School Council for Sustainable Business

WBSCSB is a sustainability think-tank and platform of action for business schools to contribute making business sustainable thourgh their research, education and engagement. (Informationen nur auf Englisch verfügbar)

At the 2010 annual conference of the Academy of Management in Montreal, a small group of concerned deans and professors took a first step to create the World Businss School Council for Sustainable Business (WBSCSB).

Objectives
The WBSCSB defines its three core areas of activities to achieve its vision as follows:

• Research must address the pressing sustainability issues in a global and overarchin way, transcending disciplinary perspectives where necessary, and producing insights that are timely, widely understood and actionable.
• Education must embrace sustainability as an integrated function of business in order for graduates to effectively address sustainability as part of their management responsibilities.
• Business scholars and educators can and should use their competence and reputation to engage in public dialogue and activities to further sustainable development.

Calling
It is high time for business schools to step up and orchestrate scholarly thinking on a global basis to respond effectively to the pressing sustainability issues of our times. The WBSCSB assembles business schools and concerned academic thought leaders in business sustainability, thereby collaborating closely with the
business community, international organizations and NGOs.

50+20 year report
A first major project has been formalized by the Council, the "50+20 year report", a pragmatic and daring vision of where business schools should evolve to in the coming 20 years to meet the challenges we are facing on our planet. The report will be jointly developed during 2011 to be presented at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), the Rio+20 conference in Rio de Janeiro in May 2012.

Strategic partnership between WBSCSB, GRLI and PRME
To deliver this high level report the WBSCSB announced in January 2011 a strategic partnership with the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) and the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).
